Temptations of Yeshua
CHAPTER 10
Yeshua and Miriam travel back
to Nazareth to spend some time with their children before
heading southeast into
the mountains. Yeshua fasts for 40 days, drinking only water
with a little honey. Both Yeshua and Miriam spend their days in
prayer and meditation.
After forty days Yeshua finds all the answers he has been seeking and
they prepare to journey to the river Jordan so Yochanan can
baptize them. A great whirlwind comes and carries Yeshua onto a
mountaintop where he is confronted and tempted by the Adversary
within but does not allow darkness to take hold. Angels of Light
return him to the glade and to Miriam.
1 And it
came to pass that on the following morning after everyone had
said goodbye, and the fishermen had taken their boats onto the
lake, Yeshua and Miriam began to walk the road to the south
along the western shore.
2
Arriving again at the villa of Magdala, they stayed a night and
then made haste to
Nazareth
the following morning that they might see their children again.
3 They
remained for eleven days in Nazareth and Yeshua took great
pleasure in being with his children, who were excused from many
of their normal duties that they might spend as much time as
possible with their father and mother.
4
Following the Sabbath, Yeshua and Miriam departed south and
avoiding the towns of
Samaria
they came to the confluence of the river
Jordan
and the river Jabbok, and followed the Jabbok east into the
mountains.
5 They
followed a tributary up into the mountains until coming upon a
beautiful glade where they prepared to stay for some time, alone
and away from all people.
6 In the
solitude of the mountains Yeshua fasted for forty days, drinking
only water and a little honey. But Miriam did not fast, save it
be for a few days at the beginning, but she ate very sparingly
and prayed often.
7 Each
morning upon arising, they would do the Contemplative Movements
together and afterwards pray, facing each other and holding
hands, for some time.
8
Afterwards Yeshua would most often go alone atop a hill to pray
and meditate, while Miriam remained at the glade, also often in
prayer and meditation.
9 Just
before dark Yeshua would return and recount to Miriam many of
the visions he had, and of the words of his Father and Mother in
heaven, which they had spoken to him.
10 After
the fortieth day, Yeshua was weak from his fast. He had found
the answers to all that he had sought, both within and without,
and said unto Miriam, “It is time that we take journey to the
Jordan that we might be baptized by Yochanan.”
11 And
Miriam looked at him questioningly saying, “Why should you need
baptism of Yochanan? For he baptizes that men might show they
have shed their old skin and will henceforth live a new life
pleasing to God. What need have you of this? Your life is
already dedicated in purity to the work of Elohim.”
12 And
Yeshua answered, “I have ascended to a new mountain of light in
my fast, worthy of baptism to mark the path now before me.
13
Verily, baptism is an act of commitment to the path of light,
which all men and women who love the light should embrace, for
in it they are born anew and they will know it in their heart.
14 Let
me go now into the water and come forth that all who love the
light may know without doubt that unless they take a true
baptism from their heart by immersion in the water, they are
still in the world and fall short of a sacred covenant with God
to be born anew.
15 And
after water comes the fire, and only those who have known the
water can receive the fire of the Holy Spirit of Elohim to ever
be their guide in righteousness.
16
Suddenly a great wind came up and Miriam was afraid, but Yeshua
held her and told her to be calm and to wait for him.
17 Then
great, dark clouds came overhead and a mighty whirlwind came
down from the sky. Yeshua pushed Miriam to the root of a tree
and she watched in fright as a funnel of roiling fury came down
and lifted Yeshua up into the clouds and he was gone.
18 And
the whirlwind carried him to the top of a nearby mountain and he
heard a voice speak to him in his mind saying, “You think you
are the only begotten Son of of the Father and Mother in
heaven. If that is so then appease your hunger and turn these
stones upon the ground into bread.”
19 And
Yeshua answered aloud, saying, “Hunger is here today and gone
tomorrow and in the light of forever, it is not even a memory;
but the word of Elohim is precious and eternal and to that, all
who love light will always hold.
20
Verily, the power of Elohim is not given to edify the holder,
but to edify others.”
21
Then the whirlwind came down again from the cloud and carried
Yeshua to the top of the temple, and the voice of the adversary
within came again into his head, saying, “Prove to yourself that
you are really the only begotten Son of God and cast yourself
from the pinnacle, for it is written, He shall send angels to
protect you, and in their hands they will bear you up, lest at
any time you dash your foot against a stone.”
22 And
Yeshua answered aloud, saying, “My Father and Mother in heaven
are proven by faith, not tests, and they who would test Elohim
have no faith, therefore their test must fail, for they ask not
in need and with faith; and only by such is the power of Elohim
made manifest.”
23 Then
the whirlwind came down again from the cloud and carried Yeshua
to the top of a high mountain from which he could see the vast
waters and the lands far beyond. And the voice of the adversary
within came again into his head saying, “If you are the only
begotten Son of God, what is man to you that you would be
mindful of him?
24 All
that you see before you and all the world beyond can be yours.
What man could stand before the Son of God? Take what is yours
that all men may bow down before you and serve you and obey
you.”
25 And
Yeshua answered aloud, saying, “Leave me! There is no place for
evil within me! I have come to serve, not be served. It is
only when one is in the service of their brothers and sisters of
spirit that one fulfills the greater light of Elohim.
26 Only
those who walk in darkness seek to be served and serve not
others.
27 I am
the light and you are the darkness, and the darkness has no
place with me. Therefore, I say unto you, be gone, and trouble
me no more!”
28 And
the darkness left as he commanded, and was no more in his
presence ever again.
29 Then
came angels of light with a warm wind upon their breath. And
they lifted and carried him up in the brightness of the sunshine
until he came again back to the glade where Miriam awaited.
30 And
she rushed to greet him and held him tight. And he told her all
that had transpired, and she cried.
